Belly Dancing

It was the Memorial Day weekend when my husband and I went to Dallas. One of my good friends, Veena, lives in Dallas. So, we also visited with her and family.

At the time, Veena’s father, Mr. Rao, was living with them as well. He looked very thin, dark, yet tall, and he was graying in his sixties. Veena introduced him with a sad feeling, and that was because of his age. She shared how they have to be careful because of his age.

Hearing this, I offered to take Mr. Rao to have dinner with us that evening. This brought cheer to Veena. Just for fun, my husband decided to take us to a belly dancing restaurant and bar.

While we were eating, the dancing was very slow. Later, the atmosphere became very different; it was loud with speedy belly dancing.

Much to our surprise, Mr. Rao got out of his chair and joined the belly dancer. The restaurant crowd cheered Mr. Rao as he matched his steps with the belly dancer. Everyone clapped as he danced. Mr. Rao looked full of life as if he was just waiting for a chance to enjoy life.

In Mr. Rao’s case, Veena’s perception was definitely not reality. Sometimes, all it takes is for us to be a little open-minded and to experience what life truly has to offer.
